Joanne
Joanne graduated from Lakeland Colleges AHT program in 2012 after following her great uncles
footsteps, though he was a large animal veterinarian she always knew she wanted to be involved in the
industry somehow and this was going to be the way. Joanne grew up on a large family farm east of the
Calgary city limits near Strathmore where her family raised Pigs, cattle as well as had a few riding horses.
Her family also spent the springs planting the crop land and the falls harvesting the hay and crop fields.
She always had a passion for animals large or small which eventually led her to roughly 6 years in 4-H
where she was a member of the Cheadle 4-H club participating in several projects ranging from raising
and showing a beef steer and heifer, to pheasants for fall release as well as the horse program. She even
dabbled in a partial project of stock dog with her family’s border collie Max. Just shy of her grade 11
year in high school she became a member of the Calgary Stampede Showriders where she was a
member for two years with her trusty mount, a Quarter Horse mare by the name of Murhpy who she
still has to this day and well into her retirement years at the ripe age of 30 spring of 2023. Though
Joanne has always worn several different hats since graduating from Lakeland College in 2012 ranging
from farm work to feedlot work, there is always something special about building relationships with the
clients and their animals that kept bringing her back to the industry. In the mean time, fall of 2020 her
and her husband added to their family a little boy who they both hope will follow in the farming or
construction lifestyle one way or another. Over the last several years Joanne has spent some time
working for a family run purebred cattle operation as well as working with their pure bred PRE (Pura
Raza Española) horses. Joanne finally joined the HTHVC team August of 2022 after some persuasion of
fellow team member and rehab team leader BJ. When Joanne isn’t at work, she is often found at home
with her son taking care of their 5 horses, 3 dogs, 3 cats and 27 chickens and massive garden or out for
the occasional hike or trail ride if she's lucky.
